I called and this number doesn't reach the same IVR system. They said they changed the IVR and phone system and that isn't available any more. I suggested that replacing it would save them time and energy. We'll see if it surfaces again here or somewhere else.

The vast majority of numbers under the Global Crossing resporg don't ask for zip codes. Only the ones that are actually with Global Crossing directly ask for the zip. Anything with anyone else will just tell you the local phone number to contact them. So the zip code IS actually telling you what phone company it's with.

But remember, you can only use this with numbers that are resporged to Global Crossing. For anything else you would have to use the Ameritech hotline to find the resporg. Only use The GC number for ones tha tare resporged to GC.

I called them & got stuck when they asked for the zip code that matched the phone number I was calling about. How did you get that info to get past that?

Misha,

You're not their customer. Even if it was your number, you're probably not their customer because most of their numbers are through resellers. So the customer for that number is a customer of one of their customers. So all you're trying to do with them is usually find out who the reseller is, which you can do pretty easily with the automated system. That's why I like and use that number, not because they give you the customer information. They're NOT supposed to do that and asking them directly is a sure way to get anyone to shut down and make sure to tell you nothing. You have to have a little more finesse than that, and you have to be willing to go through some unhelpful people to get to the helpful one.
