Full TIPS list

This is a full list of all the rotating tips which rotate on the top of the Search Results, in case you have a question or can’t find that rotating tip again.

Tip # 1:  Most carriers use the signup process to lock you into their more expensive service. That’s how they make their money. I don’t do that. I help you get the bestnumber and then help you transfer it to the best service too.

Tip # 2  Every different company and toll free service has different strengths. You don’t need to decide what company to use to get a good # and then you can transfer it to any service you want.

Tip # 3:  You can enter letters or *s in our lookup tool too. (You don’t have to translate it to numbers).

Tip # 4:  Our lookup tool searches deeper and into more databases than any other lookup anywher and it does is faster and easier to use too!

Tip # 5:  If you haven’t tried it already, make sure you use the Keyword Search. It will email you a list of all the numbers available and save you hours and hours of trying things one at a time.

Tip # 7:  Use a * as a wildcard to increase your chances of finding something.

Tip # 8:  If you find a good number, try to get the matching domain name, because that will give you a very powerful marketing combination and an almost instant brand name!

Tip # 9:  Did you know that you can forward a toll free number almost anywhere in the world with international forwarding.  They can’t call from anywhere, but you can forward calls almost anywhere.

Tip # 10:  Do you need voicemail?   You’ll get a whole section of Voicemail services in the Toll Free Manual after you activate your number.

Tip # 11:  If you point your toll free number to your cell phone and get a lot of incoming calls,   consider Sprint or Nextel because they have plans with free incoming calls.

Tip # 12:  If you’re in a state with a high instate rates and most of your calls are instate,   try one of the enhanced voicemail services to avoid the higher instate rates.

Tip # 13:  You can get a RANDOM 800 # for as low as 2.85 cents per minute at 800Numbers.com. That’s the cheapest regular toll free service, but they can’t get you specific vanity numbers.

Tip # 14:  A good vanity number can increase the response rate to all your advertising by 10-40%

Tip # 15:  Make money from your toll free number by signing up for my affiliate program!

Tip # 16:  It’s probably harder than you realized to find a good # but it’s also more valuable too.

Tip # 17:  If you want to check to make sure the connection for my lookup is working, enter 7 *s.  If it doesn’t find ten 866 numbers the SMS/800 connection isn’t working properly, which happens some times for short periods of time.

Tip # 18:  The lookup can only return a maximum of 10 matches from the spare or Available pool but may come back with special number and numbers in disconnect too.

Tip # 19:  The lookup doesn’t discriminate against ’800′ numbers. It just starts with 866, then 877, 888 and 800 numbers in that order. It does it in that order because it makes the searches go faster.

Tip # 20:  If you can’t find the right vanity number we have some Premium numeric numbers available.  They have repetitive digits and can be good for almost any product or service.

Tip # 21:  If you use too many *s you’ll find the maximum of 10 results and since the system favors sequential numbers it usually shows 866 numbers since they’re more likely to be sequential.

Tip # 22:  Try to incorporate your strongest or most attractive selling point right into your name and number!

Tip # 23:  If you have a company name or product name that people may look for, list your name with directory assistance because people may be calling directory assistance 1-800 555-1212 to look for your product.

Tip # 24:  If the number you want goes to a phone company ‘PIN’ system   or to a sex line or a ‘talk’ line, it probably won’t ever be available.

Tip # 25:  It may take a little effort to get a good toll free number but it’s a one time effort that will produce results for you for the life of your business.

Tip # 26:  If you’re in an industry that has a high cost per lead look into Call Tracking Services that track your leads, give the callers the information or faxes they want, show the response of different ads and topics and more.

Tip # 27:  Consumers prefer numeric numbers because they don’t have to work as hard, but Advertisers prefer vanity numbers because they increase the response rate which is ultimately more important to the advertiser.

Tip # 28:  If you’re spending money on advertising and the incoming calls are revenue generating you should try to get a good vanity number that spells something related to your product or service.

Tip # 29:  Many people think ‘nice’ numeric numbers are memorable. In reality, they’re easier to dial, but they’re not really easier to remember and they don’t increase your response rate.

Tip # 30:  Easy to dial, ‘nice’ numeric numbers are helpful for elderly audiences, foreign language audiences, call centers, and repeat dialing situations, such as calling cards etc.

Tip # 31:  If you’re not finding anything, try the Keyword Search.  It will check thousands of things related to your words and email you a list of everything available in about 1 minute.

Tip # 32:  You’ll get better results if you make a large list of all your possibilities   and check them all before deciding on which one is best for you.

Tip # 33:  This lookup will give you better results than you’ll get   by calling your long distance carrier, plus it’s a heck of a lot faster and easier.

Tip # 34:  Toll free numbers have a lot of special capabilities that local numbers don’t.

Tip # 35:  A toll free number just rings to or forwards to a regular local number, or even a cell phone if you want it to and there’s no extra equipment necessary.

Tip # 36:  A vanity number will increase the amount of word-of-mouth advertising you receive.

Tip # 37:  Toll free #s are portable and you can change carriers or ring to numbers relatively easily.

Tip # 38:  Toll free numbers make you look bigger and allow you to sell nationwide, but don’t have much fixed cost since their cost is variable based on the amount of calls they receive.

Tip # 39:  A good vanity number becomes more important and more valuable   in proportion to the amount of advertising you do.

Tip # 40:  Vanity numbers make the biggest difference in broadcast (tv and radio) advertising and in display advertising, where you’re dialing from memory.

Tip # 41:  A good number doesn’t cost any more per minute than a bad number does,   but a bad number costs you in the bottom line because it get fewer calls.

Tip # 42:  If you’re not spending money on advertising and the incoming calls aren’t revenue generating try 800Numbers.com for a cheap random number.

Tip # 43:  We really will try to help you give you some more specific advice if you call us at 1-800 MARKETER.

Tip # 44:  Misdials or wrong numbers can be a pain in the neck, but there are ways to minimize them and even make money with them.  See our Misdial Section for more information.

Tip # 46:  There isn’t really any good worldwide toll free system but you can   forward US toll free calls over seas to almost anywhere.

Tip # 47:  North American toll free numbers are usually only accessible   from phones that can call the US without entering a country code.

Tip # 48:  Vanity numbers aren’t as valuable in the rest of the world because of differences in advertising, cultures, market size and because our 800 numbers were introduced when long distance calls were expensive.

Tip # 49:  If you really want or like a certain number you can always just pick up the phone and dial it. But remember that if it doesn’t go to an active customer, that does NOT mean that it’s available.

Tip # 50:  Make sure you sign up for our free monitoring service to get a monthly email with the status and phone company of any number you’re interested in.

Tip # 51:  Don’t just accept everything a phone company representative tells you without getting a second opinion.

Tip # 52:  If you need to track down the owner of a toll free number that’s really hard to find,  use our secure lookup to get the phone company responsible for it and call them (after reading this page).

Tip # 53:  You’ll always make more money by building a successful business around a toll free   number than you will by marketing a toll free number to someone else.

Tip # 54:  Whenever you see your competition advertising an 877 or 866 number try   to get the 800 version. But be careful your competition can’t do that to you too.

Tip # 55:  A good "1-800" number will give you instant credibility and can make you seem like a solid customer service oriented, industry leading company.

Tip # 56:  If you get a good vanity number be sure to invest in a trademark to protect it.

Tip # 57:  Get a professional logo.

Tip # 58:  For maximum benefit, make your 1-800 number your website,   your phone number and your company name.

Tip # 59:  Look for a good 4 or 5 digit core word and try our ‘Core Word’ system   to come up with all the numbers available and all the words they could start.

Tip # 60:  Does a good vanity number matter? Only if you make money from your incoming calls!

Tip # 61:  Do your new customers come in to you over the phone?   Your phone number is the front door to new business so make it appealing.

Tip # 62:  Think about your benefits, strengths and selling points. Try to incorporate that right into your number/name like 1-800 GREAT RATE (a number that I got for someone which he later sold for over $100,000)

Tip # 63:  If you’re just starting a new business you may have to take the best 866 or 877 # you can come up with. Sometimes you have to know what you want but take what you can get.

Tip # 64:  If you had a problem with a toll free number and want to provide more feedback about it, leave a comment on 800notes.com

Tip # 65:  If you like our site, bookmark it and tell a friend.  :-)

Tip # 66:  Sign up for our free monitoring service and we’ll monitor your wish list   for free to let you know if they change status and might become available.

Tip # 67:  Beware of other services which retain ownership of the number, because your whole brand name and advertising can be held hostage if you don’t control your phone number.

Tip # 68:  Don’t forget to try adding small words in front of the name you want.   Try things like GET, FOR, TRY, CALL, DIAL, MY, GO, 800, USA, TO, etc…

Tip # 69:  Don’t forget to add a free listing for your toll free number at GoTollFree.com

Tip # 70:  Use our FAQs and the Search tool in the left column (below the Keyword Search) to find the pages relevant to your query quickly and easily.

Tip # 71:  Numbers come and go from the pool. The best time to search for numbers is actually just after midnight EST, especially on Sunday nights or holidays when nobody else is searching.

Tip # 72:  Just think of me as your toll free consultant and let me know if you have   any other toll free related questions (remember 1-800 MARKETER).

Tip # 73:  If you got a call with a toll free number listed in the caller ID, and want to find out more about it or leave information about it go to WhoCalled.us

Tip # 74:  Before you take an 866 or 877 number call the 800 version to make sure it’s not going to a competitor.

Tip # 75:  1-800 is understood to be toll free, but if you advertise an 866 or 877 number   always include the phrase ‘Toll Free’ prominently.

Tip # 76:  Remember your biggest expense isn’t paying for the cost of the incoming call,   it’s in generating those calls!

Tip # 77:  I pick up where the website leaves off in terms of questions and information   or for tracking down hard to find toll free vanity numbers!

Tip # 78:  Don’t just use the lookup tool, explore the rest of our site a little…

Tip # 79:  I really hope this is helpful for you!  Please let me know what you think of this service.  We’re not a big company and continually work to improve the system based on your input.

Tip # 80:  We respect your privacy. We will NEVER abuse or sell your email or private information.  The lookup doesn’t keep any of your information or searches, when you leave.

Tip # 81:  If you get call forwarding on the local number you point your toll free number to   all your calls (toll free or local) can be forwarded to your cell phone whenever you’re out.

Tip # 82:  If you have multiple locations, some specialized routing services allow you to route calls to the nearest location automatically.

Tip # 83:  Every phone company will give you a list of all the calls and their details on your phone bill but some specialized services make it easier to track your call volume and statistics in real time.

Tip # 84:  We’re basically the "Go Daddy" of the toll free word.  We’re not trying to sell you the on going service.  We just want to help you find the best possible number.  (more about us)

Tip # 85:  All your local features such as Call Forwarding, Caller ID and any answering machine or system will work the same with your toll free number as they do when callers dial your local number.

Tip # 86:  We can help you understand the 3 types of phone companies, Traditional Carriers, Shared Use/Squatters, and Enhanced Voicemail Services.

Tip # 87:  My "Toll Free Guide" is designed to explain the basics about toll free service for anyone new to toll free service.

Tip # 88:  We have have a list of private investigators that can track down   the old owner’s name and address, even for a disconnected 800 number.

Tip # 89:  Don’t limit yourself to 7 digits. You only need to enter the first 7 digits in   the lookup tool, but you can use any extra digits you want in your advertising.  <more>

Tip # 90:  Anything after the first 7 digits is basically ignored. Take my number, 1-800 MARKETER for instance. The last R is basically only there to make it easier to remember and it doesn’t matter if you dial it or not.

Tip # 91:  We have a whole section with Tips on getting the best #…

Tip # 92:  If you’re getting frustrated, you can give us a call at 1-800 MARKETER and I’ll   try to offer some additional suggestions, tips and help you any way I can!

Tip # 93:  One way to check a really good number is to just dial it.  We have a Consulting Section to teach you how to get a number that is already ‘In Use’.

Tip # 94:  Many people tend to think they need to use the phone company that provides their local phone number, for their toll free number, but there there are several reasons that you may be better off using a separate company.

Tip # 95:  There are no more ’800′ numbers in the pool at all, but we can still get you RANDOM ’1-800′ numbers if you can’t get them from your regular phone company.

Tip # 96:  When phone company reps don’t know how to do something, they usually say it can’t be done.  If they can’t find something in their computer they say it doesn’t exist.

Tip # 97:  Let us know if you have a good vanity number you’d like us to list here for you.

Tip # 98:  Even if you aren’t going to be using your number for a while you should set it up ahead of time and just hold it. There are services with no monthly fee. You basically only pay for the usage so it really doesn’t cost you anything.

Tip # 99:  Are you in a hurry? We can activate any number that says ‘Currently Available’ for you in an hour or less, faster than anyone or any website.

Tip # 98:  Even if you aren’t going to be using your number for a while you should set it up ahead of time and just hold it. There are services with no monthly fee. You basically only pay for the usage so it really doesn’t cost you anything.

Tip # 101:  There’s a list of 2 & 3 digit words or prefixes to put in front of your keyword in my ebook.

Tip # 102:  If your primary function is sales, take a look at some of the functions and capabilities of the enhanced voicemail services. They can make you look more professional, stay in touch better and bottom line–sell more.

Tip # 103:  You can reserve any # available and hold it for 15 days for FREE with no obligation.

Tip # 104:  Many people think ‘nice’ numeric numbers are memorable. Unfortunately they’re really not. They’re easier to dial, but if a # isn’t related to your product it won’t be remembered and won’t increase the response rate.

Tip # 105:  People never decide to call or refrain from calling because a number is easier or harder to dial.  But a more memorable vanity number that spells something connected to your business does increase the response rate.

Tip # 106:  It’s easier to decide on the best number for your business   when you’ve been thorough in researching all of your options.

Tip # 107:  It’s a long shot but when a number shows ‘in use’ in the national database, you just might be able to get it if it’s not really in use and you call the phone company responsible for it.

Tip # 108:  It’s cheaper and easier to get someone to give up a number that’s   not actively being used than one that is.

Tip # 109:  You can make a toll free number try you at multiple different numbers   with enhanced toll free services.

Tip # 110:  You can point multiple numbers to the same local number.

Tip # 111:  Having multiple numbers can help you track the source of incoming calls much easier than trying to do it manually.  Using different toll free numbers can do this for you automatically by just looking at your phone bill.

Tip # 112: You’ll probably have to be more creative to find anything.   Use my BRAINSTORM section to come up with more ideas.

Tip #113: Use the State Search feature in our Keyword Lookup to find multiple numbers for your term with different state initials.

Tip #114: You can use multiple 800 numbers with different state initials to make money and sell your existing marketing as a package with a similar toll free number and domain name.

    Bill,
One thing to add may be if you’re being bothered by unwanted calls from any toll free numbers you can look them up on callcatalog.com and also post a complaint for everyone to see.

      Kerry,

Your site looks interesting. There are one or two others. I should probably write an article about telemarketers or anyone that shows a toll free number in the caller ID.

Actually I do have one page that talks about that a little. You should also go to this page about caller id and add a comment there. When you have two comments the no follow is removed and you’ll get live links.
      http://www.tollfreenumbers.com/blogs/toll-free-numbers-on-your-caller-id.html

And I think you should read that page and it’ll be interesting to some of the people leaving comments related to toll free numbers “calling” them.

I have been playing with your site for the past couple of days trying to find the perfect phone number for my new company. Then I received an email from Bill explaining how I could play around with some of the numbers to get some additional options.

Once I received Bill’s email it all fell into place! I sat down and came up with about 75+ combinations that I could use and then I called my local phone company. Next thing I know - I was done! Two days of frustration and pulling hair for nothing!

The information your company provides is invaluable! I’m still amazed on why you do it! It’s great for small business owners and entrepreneurs. I’ll make sure everyone I know who needs an 800 # knows about your site!

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I had already purchased several toll free numbers from other businesses before I found this site. I found that it was cheaper for me to search, buy the numbers here, and have them transferred then it was to have other businesses do it. For example I bought two numbers here and activated them for $99. Another business was going to charge me $10 per month and a $10 setup fee per number for them to obtain the same numbers and set it up for me. As I said I bought them for $99 and transferred it to this other business for free. Doing this was only going to cost me a $2 setup fee and $2 per month per number. You do the math on the savings.
