“What a great public service!!!”
As I’m sure others new to obtaining a toll-free number have discovered, trying to learn about the various services, plans, and providers can be overwhelming. There are pitfalls: The fine print of some contracts indicates that the 800-number you obtain through them “belongs” to–or is leased by–the service provider, and if you wish to change providers, you will have to change numbers as well. Alternatively, the service provider
can delay your request to transfer, creating another headache. Another problem not clearly disclosed by provider sites is the higher per-minute charges for instate calls in based on intrastate tariffs in some states, in my case over .07 per minute.
