Resporg

An abbreviation for “Responsible Organization” which is the term for an organization or entity which has access to the SMS 800 database. There are around 300 resporgs. They would be “registrars” in the domain name terminology. Many phone companies are Resporgs but not all phone companies are Resporgs and not all reporgs are phone companies.

We have a whole section of our site for information on and related to Resporg. See http://www.tollfreenumbers.com/resporg/

Is there a standard concerning number disconnects after a resprog is delivered to the current provider? For example, if I want to move a toll free number from carrier 1 to carrier 2 what exact happens? I assume that after I sign the resprog with carrier 2 it is sent to carrier 1. Is there a standard for how long carrier 1 holds the number before release? Do they just release it without confirming it is connected through carreir 2?

    Thanks for your information.

      Hi Ron,

Yes, you fill the authorization form out with carrier 2 who sends it to carrier 1 when they are ready for carrier 1 to release it. Carrier 1 typically responds within a few days. We release them the same day we get the request but nobody else ever them that fast. We also notify both the new carrier and the customer but nobody else usually notifies the new carrier, they just release it.

We are accountable and hold ourselves to a higher standard because we see this as part of our job but most resporgs are very unaccountable and you can never reach anyone in most resporg departments. Most people also blame the other carrier as kind of a knee jerk reaction, even if they didn’t even send it to them yet.

      Bill

I had the 877 version of the number, but I didn't like the idea of losing calls. Especially when my clients need me right away most of the time and they need me so badly when they do need me, that I can't take chances with people's lives. When I saw that 800 FILE AWAY was available and that you could back order it for me, I was delighted. I have spoken to a couple of different companies and explored websites and you were the only one who offered the back order service. Thanks Bill!
