P stands for “Premium”

stands for “Premium” 800 numbers. They are unique numeric toll free numbers that have easier to dial repetitive digits, patterns or 00s or even 000s. They aren’t vanity numbers since they don’t spell anything, but they do add credibility and give a stronger more impressive image to almost anything. They can be used for a wider variety of things since they are not tied to a specific name or phrase.
Premium numbers require a somewhat higher search fee than regular activations because they aren’t available in the normal process and require advanced searching and work to locate, similar to backorders in some ways. They harder to find in most lookups though because unlike “vanity” numbers that are almost impossible for regular phone companies to see, the phone companies can see Premium numbers very easily. They also tend to keep them and give rather than return them to the pool.
