We can’t get LOCAL vanity numbers for you.

Local vanity numbers vary by geography so there’s no nationwide system or rules them.  Sometimes they only take a couple phone calls and come easy but often no matter what you do, they really won’t or can’t help you.  Unfortunately there’s nobody that can help you very much for local vanity numbers.

 We’re going to add some functions back in for local vanity numbers in the future because I think local vanity numbers have tremendous potential.  We’ll add materials and information here but at this point there’s not a lot we can do for this right now.

    Hi Bill,

    I have 4 local vainity numbers but I am only really using 1 of them. They are all cell numbers. The problem I have is I don’t use 3 of them but still have to pay a monthly line fee ($15.00) with the cell company. So I am throwing away $45.00 a month. I would still like to keep the 3 numbers when I can use them more in the future. Do you know if I can port the numbers to a pay per use type plan? The kind of plan that you can add minutes when you run low. I would hardly ever run low because I rarly use the 3 numbers.

      You can probably transfer the numbers to land lines if you want. Some voip services are just a couple bucks a month.

        I was wondering if you know of a site that shows local (Rhode Island for me) telephone number availability or if there is a way to check for any available RI numbers?? What I am trying to find out is if there is a way to obtain a number that may become available soon from a business that is closing?

          You would have to call your local phone company. The incumbent phone company for the area should or might? be able to help you. Here’s a great tool to find the local phone company for a local number: http://www.fonefinder.net/

          Theres no other serice or any website that will do it for you or be much help that I’ve ever seen. If anyone has any suggestions please post them here.

            We Googled around looking for a vanity number as well as voice mail service, but after reading the fine print on most of the service providers websites we realized that the providers would technically own our number, meaning that we couldn't take it with us if we decided to switch to another service later.
