No, there is no special equipment necessary.  You can point your toll free number to any local number you want and it doesn’t have to affect the local number it forwards to.

    If I arrange a number through your site, can Canadian callers ring through to it? Is it possible to have the toll free number ring through to a cell phone held with Verizon (a 415 area code)? Do I need a land line set up to answer the toll free calls? Do I need to purchase two numbers if one is for fax and do your fax toll free numbers show up as pdf’s/ other electronic form?

    Thanks for your time. I am setting up an office in the SF Bay area and really need toll free service in the US for Canadian callers.

      I was just out in SF from Tuesday through Friday, for a Google Developer conference last week. I was mainly in the Union Square area downtown.

      Anyway, yes you can control the coverage area and include all or any part of Canada or the US or a few territories too. Anywhere in the North American Numbering Plan (anywhere that you can dial the US without dialing a country code).

      You can point a toll free number to a cell phone although most cell phone companies are pretty dumb about toll free service and you’d need a company that can do toll free only without the long distance. The one that we usually recommend is PNG (http://www.tollfreenumbers.com/png). We’ll send you the form for them in the toll free manual we email you after you activate a number.

      You can get two numbers and can point them to the same number or different number, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s a cell phone or fax number or the pay phone outside your office for all I care.
