Hi Bill -

Thanks for the update. Can you explain what an "RCC" number is ? I am not familair with that acronymn. I was looking for a number with prefix
800-534-**** but I guess that prefix still hasn't been released.

Thanks

Hi Moe,

This needed to be updated. The FCC did release many of the numbers in the blocks held for RCC. They still have many numbers used for RCC, but the numbers not used by RCC numbers were released.

These blocks aren't held any more, just some of the numbers that are being used as RCC numbers. They were in the list above but I've removed them.

800-202-**** is reserved for RCC use by the FCC
800-212-**** is reserved for RCC use by the FCC

Does the FCC ever intend to release the blocks of pre-fixes you reference in your article above ? Is there a reason those numbers are being saved ? Is there a big enough check anybody can write to get the FCC to release one of those numbers. Thanks in advance. Moe

Hi Dale,

Our toll free numbers are only accessible from within the North American numbering plan, (basically within North America). There’s really no good solutions for international toll free numbers. You can set up UIFN numbers but they are expensive, difficult and not used very much and have to be set up country by country.

No, there doesn’t got to be a way. That’s like saying that because a domain isn’t bringing up a website when I type it into my browser, theres got to be away for me to get it. That isn’t necessarily true (or very likely).

You were asking if you could do something before and I didn’t mean to give you any false hope by saying I couldn’t say it was impossible. As far as me being able to do something for it, that’s much easier to answer. NO, I certainly can’t help you with the one in Bermuda or the other active numbers. That would be like joining Match.com and insisting that they hook you up with this beautiful girl that you met and isn’t a member. You’re saying, “But you’re a match making service, can’t you match me up with her?â€? Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Sorry!

We can help you find good girls that match up with some of your criteria, but we can’t go get you that one girl you picked out who isn’t available, no matter how much you “need her or one of her sisters. And calling the FCC isn’t gonna do you any good unless it makes you feel better to vent about how unfair it is that you can’t get what you want .

Juan,

I can’t say that it’s impossible because I just don’t know. I don’t know of anyone that has done that, or that could help you or even how to try it. I’m sorry. I would focus more on the other area codes. I think you have a higher probability of getting one of those.

Or you get a second local number with a different exchange. But find one that's also available as a toll free number first. You wouldn't have to give up your office number, just add the new one and start putting that on all future advertising. You wouldn’t need to get rid of the old number ever really. You probably need more than one phone line for your office anyway.

Clay,

Toll free numbers as we use them are only accessible from within the North American Numbering Plan. That’s basically anywhere you can call the US without dialing a country code. The US, Canada and a few small territories, like Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Bahamas, etc. The default service for US companies is usually just within the US unless you request additional areas.

There are access codes that callers can use in some countries that will allow them to pay for the cost to get the call to the US and then the toll free service gets it to you. There are also toll free numbers available in many other countries, but you would need to set them up on a country by country basis. Toll free numbers aren’t as widely used in most other countries as they are here in the US although some countries like Australia are definitely making progress.

There are also some companies that specialize in international service with a network of toll free numbers already in place in most countries but the bottom line is that there is no simple solution for worldwide toll free service. The flip side of that is that people don’t expect that the same way they expect to see them as much outside of the US. For some more information about toll free options take a look at a friends page: http://tfn.international-phone-numbers.net/
