Numbers in Disconnect and Transition
When you use the Instant 800 Lookup, some numbers will say Disconnected or Changed Recently. These numbers are in the aging process before being returned to the available pool and you can backorder them from us. We’ll research them and then try to grab them that first second when they come out. No other phone company shows you numbers that are in Disconnect or Transition (Changed recently). These can also be some of the best numbers too, although they take more time and effort and cost more than the regular $49 activations.
When a customer cancels a toll free number or a whole account or if they don’t pay for it after a while it will be disconnected. Sometimes a phone company disconnects it internally without disconnecting it in the national database. Numbers that are “locally disconnected are not in the aging process, but when a phone company completely disconnects a toll free number it is held in an aging process for exactly four months before it gets returned to availability. We refer to this as “In Disconnect while it’s aging. This period is designed to minimize the number of wrong numbers and to give the previous customer a chance to retrieve the number if they still want it.
Some numbers do get taken back (see Yo-Yo numbers) but most go through the aging process. Unfortunately there are some very big sharks (scavengers with big appetites for vanity numbers) and anything even mildly interesting or of any value at all will get taken literally within seconds of becoming available. These squatters aren’t taking the numbers for customers. They’re taking them for themselves to make money off of wrong numbers or to hope they can sell or rent to for a ton of money.
We offer the only real backorder service of this kind. We’ll do the research and tell you the exact date it comes out of disconnect and the phone company (if possible*), and we’ll try to grab it for you in that first second. This is only available on a first come first served basis for the first customer requesting it. Any other requests are turned away. If we’re not able to get it, it doesn’t cost you anything and if we do get it, it’s automatically your number and you’re charged the backorder fee. ($195 for 866, $395 for 877, $595 for 888 and $795 for an 800 number) There’s also a lot more information on the backorder process in the Backorder Section.
