Know what you want, take what you can get
When you start a new business it’s natural to have high expectations and to shoot for the moon. Believe me, I’ve been there myself many times. But you also have to realize that you can’t get the best of everything starting out and in reality, you often have to make do.
Unfortunately you have to realize that you may not be able to get the perfect number at first for a new small business, just like you probably didn’t have the perfect car when you first got your drivers license. It would obviously be silly to say, “If I can’t have my dream car, I don’t want anything.” And it’s just as silly to say, “If I can’t have my dream number, I don’t want anything.” We all have to know what we want, but take what we can get sometimes.
I think sometimes people forget that they can take the best number available now and keep working on their dream number too. There’s a high turnover rate with toll free numbers and we’ll even keep checking for you every month if you use the Keyword Lookup.
You can also have more than one toll free number ringing into the same local number. So when you do get your perfect number you won’t have to give up the initial number either. You can always use that for tracking the response rate for special projects or for a fax number etc. You probably need a number for advertising that you’re doing now, but this probably isn’t the last advertising you’re ever gonna do. So take the best number you can find now and take more of a long term approach toward getting your ultimate dream number. Maybe after you’ve proven your business and developed more capital and can justify spending more the situation may be a little different and work out better.

Question. We have been trying to find a good number for our company name for quite some time now. How about finding me just an easy number to remember? It has to be 800, or maybe 888. I mean something like 1-800-300-3333. Something like this. What are your thoughts?

Ron,
It’s not easy to get a good number. Especially if you decide what house you want to move into before checking to see if it’s for sale or not first. But if you think vanity numbers with words are difficult, nice numeric numbers are ten times harder to get because they are visible to the phone companies. A number that spells video or whatever you’re looking for isn’t going to mean much or stand out to most phone companies, but a number like you’re suggesting (which would probably be at least $15,000 if you had to buy it even if it was available) are almost impossible to get.
You can use our Instant 800 Lookup to search for and find a number of premium numbers. They can be a good backup if you don’t find a good vanity word. Try searching for 800-xxx-**** 888-888-**** or 800-***-**00 to find some options. But don’t hold your breath for a number that is good in both the prefix and the suffix and matches like that because it aint gonna happen. Not to mention that it isn’t as valuable as a good vanity number either, but that’s a different topic. We have a section that explains more about nice numeric numbers like you are talking about at http://www.TollFreeNumbers.com/premium/
Also if you haven’t tried it you should really try the Keyword Search at http://www.TollFreeNumbers.com/keyword/ It’s a great tool to find all of the options for any keywords and will do hours and hours of research and email you the results within a minute or so.
I hope that’s helpful. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help with anything else.
