Finding the Organization Responsible
Update: The secure lookup is offline at the moment but you can use the phone company description to see who the phone company with that number is if you compare the exact message from the Toll Free Search Results box to the Phone Company Descriptions listed here.
If the number doesn’t go through and goes to a phone company intercept message of some kind, then your next step is to contact the phone company responsible for the number. They are the ones with the end user information. If you’ve ordered anything from us within the past year, you can log in to our secure lookup. The Instant 800 Lookup on that page gives you the phone company and contact information for most numbers. If you haven’t purchased anything from us, you can subscribe to the secure version to get that information for only $8.95 for a year.
After you fill out the order form you’ll get a receipt with the Order ID. Use the Order ID as your username and leave the password blank when you go to the secure version of the Instant 800 Lookup. Then use the Instant 800 Lookup on the secure version to get the phone company information.
We used to give this information away for free (we definitely give a lot of information way for free!) but attorneys for the SMS/800 threatened to shut us down unless we stopped have that information out to the general public. We are however allowed to give this information out to our customers and by “subscribing” you essentially become a customer.

The Secure Lookup is down temporarily. The order process is still there but I’ve made the price $0 so it would still give anyone an order number so they would be able to access it later when it is back.
We are working on a more powerful version of the Instant 800 Lookup and when that’s done we’ll reinstall a secure version to give out the phone company information. In the mean time, use the link above for more ways.
