1-800 TOW TRUCK

When you’re just starting a new small business, you don’t have to have a million dollar number. It might be nice if you could but you have to be more realistic than that. I know you’re determined to build a great business and that you are persistent and know how to get what you want. But that honestly isn’t going to get you your dream number.

I just talked to someone starting a towing referral service who wanted to get 1-800 TOW TRUCK. It’s a quarter million dollar or more number, and the person trying to get it was unemployed and wanted to start a new business. I asked him if he thought he needed a quarter of a million dollars worth of tow trucks to start a towing business. No, you can start it for a lot less than that. And you can start it with a couple hundred dollar number or even a $49 number if you’re creative (or maybe a little lucky?)

There was a line in the Robin Williams cartoon, Robots. Rodney wanted to get into see Big Weld and the gate keeper said come back about two years ago and he could get in. In this case you’re more like 15 years too late

My suggestion was to find a number his state initials in front of something tow truck related. That would make a good number much more readily available and it would allow you to start and expand state by state. And then once you have a couple different programs working in different states, then you can realistically go after a million dollar number after you’ve proven yourself, your business and the concept.

It may seem like a short cut to get to the million dollar level if you had it, and it’s nice to dream about that now, but don’t waste a lot of time and effort chasing after fantasy numbers. It’s like trying to date Britney Spears. The more time you spend chasing after the “perfect” girl, the less time you’ll have for everyone else.
