Do I need multiple 800 numbers for my websites?
My company has multiple web sites with different names. Do I need a separate toll free number for each website?
That’s a good question. You could use one number on every site. But using a different number allows you to track the response rates and see how many calls are coming from each website which can be huge, especially in today’s tight budgets where ROI is king.
It give you more Accountability and Control
Using multiple 800 numbers also allows you to control exactly where the calls go as well. You may want them all to go to the same place now. But if something changes and one really takes off you might want to peel off a one of the numbers if you sell the site or just need it to be handled by different people.
You might want to put different specials, announcements or promotions on the voicemail system for different websites. And answering with the company name also tends to reassure people. You have to realize that in my experience at least half of the callers are really just calling to make sure you’re legit and that you’ll be there if they have a problem. You’re not a known entity like Amazon so even though all of the information is available online people will call just to make sure they understand it and that you’re real.
Multiple 800 numbers doesn’t cost you any more
It also doesn’t cost any more to receive the calls on separate numbers because it’s like waterlines. If you pay by the gallon it doesn’t cost any more to have multiple piplines coming in because you use the same amount of water whether it comes in from just one pipe or through multiple pipes. We charge a small fee to get you each number but as long as you can find an appropriate number for each site, I would think you’re probably much better off getting the credibility of a vanity number for each site if it’s a significant site that you really care about.
Separate 800 numbers shows that you care more
It’s essentially one more sign that you do care, just like having a professional web design does. All these things add up to a more unique and more powerful web presence. Oh and Google has also started requiring that different locations in local search have to have different phone numbers too, for the same reason, because that’s an indicator of a more serious business.

Thank you Bill for your service, you make the process of finding and securing a toll free number so easy. Your fee is worth every penny!
