Toll Free Advisory Committee does NOT exist!!!
12/01/2008
A couple months ago a website called smsgov.com with no connection to any government or sms authority was started to promote a fictitious organization they named “The Toll Free Advisory Committee (TAC).” It all looks very authoritative if you don’t look for facts in their news articles or look at the fake contact information.
They describe Smsgov.com as the home of the Toll Free Advisory Committee (TAC), which sounds good but there is no Toll Free Advisory Committee and never has been. They just started claiming it as if it were true. It’s one of the more interesting internet scams. But when you do a search on Google for “Toll Free Advisory Committee,” you’ll find the following results:
How many queries have you ever done on Google that only had two results from the same website? Even if you spell things totally wrong or make up words, you usually get more hits than that! I noticed that there were more results but they were filtered. Oh, they must have filtered them for some reason, so I clicked to show the duplicates and got the following long list. But again they were ALL from smsgov.com.
How likely is it that an organization would exist without a single mention of it, without a blog post about it, or anything anywhere whatsoever except their own website. The contact information is all totally fake, even the toll free organization’s toll free number 800-X00-0000. The truth is obviously that there is no Toll Free Advisory Committee.
They may make up a couple fake stories with that name in it in the future and generate a couple links outside of their own website in the future, after I write this but look at the dates of those pages. These are the REAL screen shots from Google for the name of this fictitious organization.
