Not only was it the easiest system to use, but Bill was very helpful and quick to respond (even when I wasn't a customer). I found out that after 45 days, if the number hasn't been assigned, that it would go back on the "list". Sure enough I keep checking and found the same exact number I wanted and had used on all my marketing materials. I immediately called Bill and grabbed the number up. Bill was so helpful! He explained what I needed to do to get the number assigned to a carrier, how that transfer process worked, what forms would be needed and who would be giving them to me. He asked me questions about my company and how I would be using the 888# to best direct me to a good carrier that would meet my needs. This is my second time using your services. I initially used you back in 2005. Your services have become much more proficient since then and it's very greatly appreciated. I have been using a reputable 3rd party toll free provider for the last (8xx) number I bought from you and asked them about purchasing and using my new desired number. They wanted to charge just a $30 setup fee an $5 a month. That wasn't so much the issue as THEM owning a big part of my marketing campaign. It's very important to own your own number. I disagree that owning way better then renting. I think that is a sweeping generalization. There are times when “renting” might be the better option.
If you work with the right company you won’t get your “chain yanked”. You won’t lose your number and you will be protected from random price increases.
If you only need a number for a certain market and can get a better more memorable number by licensing one for your area…it can be better then buying an average number just so you can say you “own” it.
It would be like saying its always better to own you building then to rent. Sometimes it is…sometimes it isn’t.
I believe I provide a great service to my clients (as you provide to yours). I am fair, honest, upfront and add other value items to help them get the most out of this marketing tool.

I guess it does depend on your perspective. If you’re the owner renting to someone else, you do of course see the benefits and not the downside.
The analogy of real estate is quite accurate unless you stipulate that it’s clearly CHEAPER to own a building than it is to rent. The only time I would admit that it’s appropriate to rent is if you have a very short term limited test, or if you mis printed a number on a mailing that you already sent out. Then I would agree that if it’s available, rent the number for a short term.
But unfortunately most of the people renting numbers are pricing them at what they think is the value of the number, not their cost to obtain them. If someone would price their rental based on their cost to obtain it, it would be competitive with owning a number. Unfortnately nobody renting numbers seems able to bring themselves to do, at least that I’ve seen.
Then you have to add into the fact that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I didn’t make that up, but when you rent a number from someone, you unfortunately DO give them power over your business. I’m sure you’re a good person but I still believe that absolute power still corrupts good people, especially when they are competing with people who aren’t as morally constrained and there’s no over sight. (Welcome to the toll free world!)
The popularity of Toll Free Numbers also soared not when toll free numbers were broken up from AT&T monopoly, they took off when portability went into effect. So it’s no mystery why renting a number which doesn’t give you portability, isn’t nearly as popular as owning your own number.
Sure I have a perspective on this because I offer ownership. But I started out in this business to do shared use but I changed my focus and business because I knew this was a better way and by better I mean better for the customer. I don’t think this is a better way because of my business, I changed my business to this because I knew this was better for everyone.
