Can we limit the search results to 7 digits?

I understand there are some advantages to a number being only 7 digits. My number is 8 digits which is arguably the worst length because if anyone has a problem getting through on some cell phones, they are less likely to realize what the problem is than if it were several digits too many.

Unfortunately there’s no way to limit the results to 7 digit numbers. I suppose we could build you function into the program if we really thought it was appropriate. But I usually just ask people asking about this if they would want to be notified if 1-800 COMPANY-NAME or 1-800 TYPE OF BUSINESS (or whatever might be their perfect name) was available. They say yes, and then I say that means they don’t really want to eliminate all numbers more than 7 digits. I agree it’s a factor in it but it’s not really the primary factor. Because even though they might like numbers that are the perfect 7 digits the best, the most important thing is usually the message, not the length.

The computer also finds phrases and sometimes a phrase is longer than 7 digits but the first word or words aren’t and you can make a good number by dropping the end. The computer can’t really figure that out yet and would again throw out good numbers if it was limited like that

The lastly ask yourself how many domain names for instance happen to have exactly 7 digits? Lets be generous and guess 10% of them. Isn’t it hard enough to find a good vanity number, without throwing out 90% of the possible numbers? That’s not just like trying to do something difficult with one hand behind your back, that’s trying to do something difficult with only 1 out of 10 fingers and maybe one eye closed too. I’m all for pursuing the best possible numbers. That’s what I do. And as an entrepreneur I appreciate determination quite a lot. But I don’t care how good and determined you are, I wouldn’t want to bet on you succeeding when you handicap yourself like that.

Back to the search result—I think it’s also important to understand that the role of the computer program is to find ALL the possible numbers related to your concept and it’s your job to decide which one you want. The computer can’t pick your number for you, and you wouldn’t want it to. So we have to make the computer err on the side of giving you too many options rather than letting it throw out things that you might have liked because we made it too picky. You get to be as picky as you want, but we can’t program that into the computer. Plus it’s also important to understand the principle of knowing what you want, but taking what you can get. We’ll keep working on it for you and doing an amazing amount of research for you in order to get the best possible number for your business.

Here’s an even better answer to a similar question: Can we limit the results (on the Keyword Lookp) to just ‘800′?

Thanks, Bill - always enjoy your 800 number notifications. Your emails and your services are just the right blend of “large enough to handle all of my needs, small enough to get personal with all your clientele.” I enjoy your brand of smart and friendly marketing as well. Thanks.

          Lin,

It took me a few minutes to figure out what I think you’re trying to say. You don’t mean that there are a lot of numbers actually like that. You mean that literally. I think you’re asking why there are more than 7 digits. Anything after the first 7 digits is basically ignored. Take my number, 1-800 MARKETER for instance. The last R is basically only there to make it easier to remember and it doesn’t matter if you dial it or not.

I am sorry to be so confusing. Yes, you answered my question. Is it possible to find the numbers I sent to you earlier without the extra letters? If not, let’s choose one that I can start using right away. Let me know if we can find the other numbers or not. Thanks.

              Lin,

The question isn’t whether or not you can get the perfect number. You can check that yourself with the Toll Free Search Engine at TollFreeNumbers.com or at AT&T for that matter. But AT&T won’t find numbers in disconnect, give you as much information about the numbers or try hundreds or thousands of other numbers too, to find the best number that is available.

Did you get your first choice in a domain name? Almost nobody gets the “perfect” domain name but if you’re creative and are more creative trying other options you can certainly find something that will work and build a good website with it. The same thing is true with toll free numbers. If you’re saying I only want the perfect number or I’m not going to get or even look at other options, nobody can really help you. If you want to find the best possible number for your business that’s what we do. The Keyword Lookup you already did is essentially the possibilities based on the terms you put in. If you want other possibilities put in different terms.

I hope this makes sense and helps at least as much as possible.

              Bill

Tollfreenumbers.com is a great resource for identifying great vanity numbers. We at TellBill.net (mFeedback.com) acquired 877-BILL-LISTENS through Bill Quimby's site, and it was very easy. We easily transferred this number to our regular landline carrier. Bill Q continues to monitor other tollfree numbers desired by our company. It's a great service. Try It!

Bill was extremely helpful in assisting us with freeing up a number that was being held on to (to our surprise) by a company who reserved a 888 number for us without notifying us after we used
                    them for a search.
Bill also took a considerable amount of time to educate us about 800 numbers.

I wanted to tell you thank you. You were invaluable in what you did in assisting me. I work for the Department of Homeland Security and it made it a little hard to work through you due to some internal decisions. The government can be finicky and we ended up using a number that Sprint was able to locate and hold onto. I will say that I found your site very helpful and it was one of your tips that actually helped us reserve the number so I really do want to thank you and I will keep you in mind for any future ventures I may end up with.

You have carved out a small, but important niche and you've become a world-class expert. It is a pleasure to deal with someone who knows the nuances and subtleties of an intimidating, alien space.
