Is TollFreeNumber.org lieing?

They say they've been doing this since 1999

TollFreeNumber.org says they’ve been “assisting businesses and families since 1999″ but just a little research makes that look a little less than honest. All I did was look at the Whois domain name registration, (shown below) and then the Way Back Time Machine at Archive.org (shown below that) and it looks like they’re exagerating at least a little (to put it nicely)!

Whois registration for TollFreeNumber.org:

Whois Registation for tollfreenumber.org

Archive.org listings for TollFreeNumber.org:

Archive.org listings for TollFreeNumber.org

My only question is, what else are they willing to stretch the truth about?

I personally think that’s a sign of dishonesty but their visitors can decide that for themselves. Look at my Archive.org listings and you’ll find that I registered my domain name in 1995 and have run a real business on the web in this industry ever since. It’s evolved and grown but I have always run it the way I personally live my life. It can be a shadowy industry in many ways, and I try to be a flashlight and point things out when I think something is wrong.

If there’s an explanation they’re more than welcome to respond and I’ll be happy to apologize if I’m wrong. But the research speaks for itself to some extent. (I was tempted to publish this post without any words at all) But feel free to add your own to this too.

Update 6/8/08: I got a letter from Aaron P. Morris threatening me with defamation, yet it didn’t actually dispute any of the above points. Their letter didn’t even say that the business was established in 1999. It simply said that it could have been established before the domain name was registered.

I don’t believe a company with a name .org would ever exist before it’s website and I also found out that their original toll free number was also set up at the same time as their domain name. My full response post is a little long, but at this point it looks even more like they started in late 2002, not 1999, especially since their response doesn’t provide anything to the contrary.

Between the time that this was written and when it was published the president of TFN.org came on and made so many posts he got banned so unfortunately he didn’t have a chance to respond to this. So don’t take the fact that they don’t respond to be evidence that this is true. If they do respond in any other way, I will add it here and respond appropriately. If necessary there are a couple other things we might want to point out about them too, but I’ll hold off on that for now as I’ve got a lot more important things to write about.
