Why have included minutes?

The reason some toll free companies especially internet only companies are starting to sell so called 1-800 “plans”, with included minutes is because it makes them look cheaper. But what most people don’t realize is that it also lets them charge people for more service than they use. Ironically this seems to appeal to people new to toll free service who don’t have a track record or history to go by and they consistently over estimate how many calls they’ll get. Customers seem to forget that many of their calls still come in on their local line or they even forget it’s only the incoming calls.
It’s all right to have maybe a hundred or so minutes included free, essentially to go with the nominal monthly fee. But there’s really no need to pay for blocks of minutes. Even if you’re going to have a higher volume of calls it’ll still take time to ramp up the advertising and use. So why pay for use during that time that you don’t use? And all businesses have slow times and startups take longer than you think they should to start.
I’m essentially the only company not selling the service so I’m not saying this to get you to buy something else. I can just be more honest than anyone else. When anyone says INCLUDED, change the word in your head to REQUIRED, because they’re REQUIRING you to pay for them whether you use them or not. I would also take it a step further and suggest that you should reall think twice about even getting service from companies that push people into toll free plans with large amounts of minutes “included”. This is even more true of any company offering so called “unlimited” toll free plans.
