Acting Like A Phone Company?

Not a Phone CompanyGoogle purchased Grand Central in 2007 and relaunched it in 2009 as Google Voice. Which i think is a great product but in some eyes they are moving and behaving increasingly like a phone company.

The FCC is now effectively treating them more as one as well. They sent them a letter requesting information on early terminations that they sent to other wireless carriers such as AT&T, Sprint, T Mobile and Verizon. The interesting point is that the FCC is now looking at and treating Google as a phone company because they are acting like one.

That raises an interesting question. Would the corollary also be true. If you don’t act like a phone company will the FCC treat you like you’re not a phone company? We’re a good example. We don’t act like a regular phone company by any means. We don’t provide ongoing service. We’re also the of company trying to get rid of all of our customers as fast as we can. We’re a search engine for toll free numbers. We have to be a resporg in order to activate the numbers our customers need but as far as the FCC is concerned we’re not providing phone service nor are we behaving like a phone company so maybe by the FCC logic, we’re not a phone company or under their jurisdiction.
