Adding company names to the toll free search results
We are excited to announce that we’re adding many of the phone company names back into the toll free search results and we’re linking to profiles for those companies too. We’ve done a lot of research and are building thorough listings for hundreds of companies that offer toll free service in our Providers section. We removed the company names a couple years ago at the request of the SMS because they asked us to not give out the resporg information. Our toll free provider profiles are now much more thorough and based on years of experience and knowledge about the toll free business and a wide range of sources.
There are also other places that do give out the phone company for each toll free number so we feel that limiting ourselves to a description is no longer appropriate or helpful to phone companies or the consumer. And it’s just not appropriate to surpress this information if everyone is giving this out. Telling consumers the phone company responsible for a toll free number is a valuable consumer service and there are many cases where this information is necessary for law enforcement or just consumers trying to reach or research issues related to toll free numbers.
We are contacting each phone company to confirm that they want their information to be given out when someone searches on a number in their resporg, and to get the appropriate resporg forms to transfer numbers to each company. Participation is voluntary and we will gladly remove their company name and show only a description instead. There are a several resporgs which we believe will prefer not to have their specific information given out so we have already blocked that information from some companies. We also don’t show of the statistics about usage and volume of numbers which we think could be harmful to some companies, because we’re not trying to hurt anyone or make waves. We’re simply trying to provide the best possible service we can to the public.
