If you are thinking about obtaining a serious vanity number, then look no further than Bill Quimby's website "tollfreenumbers.com". Mr. Quimby is extremely helpful and to my surprise answered his phone at 8pm to help me obtain an 877 number that was showing as possibly already taken. After a couple of minutes he had acquired the number for me and gave me 15 days to decided if I really wanted to keep it with no charge to me! Not only does he provide an outstanding service up front his after sales support is also fantastic. My emails where answered within the hour! If I had to grade his service it would have to grade it an A+! Thanks again Bill for all your help! If I need another number you can be sure I'll be back for your help again.

Thank you for your site and your services.
Using your information, I was able to easily track-down a suitable business "vanity" toll-free number, reserve it through your company, and successfully have my new number transferred to my long-distance provider.
Without you, your website, and your book, it would have been a far more tedious process, and I could have ended up in one of the "endless loop" scams you speak about.
Mission accomplished!
I appreciate your personal concern and assistance.

You provide a great service, thanks. The only problem we just realized was that the number we searched on has too many digits. While traditional phone lines ignore the extra number if dialed, digital lines do not. They don’t let the call go through. Consequently, we now have to advertise just the first 7 digits instead of the vanity name.

Allan,
SOME cell phones (not all) over analyze it and don’t put the calls thru but some do, and some do for toll free numbers but don’t for local numbers that are over 7 digits. The issue is smaller on voip phones because most voip users use regular phones. It’s only true voip service which is usually higher end businesses that don’t use hosted services or hybrid voip.
There are lots of very large businesses that use numbers over 7 digits. My favorite is 1-800 ROYAL CARIBBEAN, for it’s extreme length, but there are lots more. I’m taking pictures of many of them to make a post that proves the point.
The problem is often overblown by people theorizing the problem, but I don’t see that talked about very much by people actually using numbers over 7 digits.
It’s nice if it comes out to 7 digits. But the advantage of having a more memorable number far outweighs the 7 digit issue. You can look for a different number if you want to but it honestly doesn’t make sense to throw out the baby just because it’s not perfect.
My car isn’t perfect but it gets me where I need to go. It would be silly to decide I have to walk just because my car isn’t perfect. Is the advantage of using a vanity number better than the disadvantage of some people having to work a little harder to reach you. I guess you have answer that question for yourself, but If I waited till I had things perfect in my business I wouldn’t have any business at all.

I think the power of a vanity number far outweighs the potential problem or challenge of an extra digit or two… Most people know how long a phone number should be. I recommned putting the actual numbers below the vanity word in any print ads where people have time to read it. On a billboard or radio ad, just the number in my case “1-800-PLUMBING” is fine, because the viewer could be driving or doing something else. They will remember the number.
