What is our monthly fee and per minute rate?
We don’t charge any monthly fee or per minute rate, because we don’t provide the ongoing service. We basically help you get the best number and then help you transfer it to whoever is best for you for the ongoing use.
We’re kind of like a domain name registrar that doesn’t provide the hosting. So the rate for hosting obviously depends on the hosting company and plan you select.
I can give you a good idea of the rates of most companies in general as well as some good options, but the bottom line is that you get to pick the company and therefore the rates. This ability to transfer the number at any time may not seem like much, and the regular phone companies will try to down play it for obvious reasons, but that is what keeps them honest and guarantees you the best rates and service.
Competitive toll free servcies are just a couple dollars/month and a couple cents/minute.
The big name companies vary more but are typically in the 6 to 8 cents per minute range, while the more competitive services you find on the internet with names you’re not familiar with, are generally 4 to 6 cents per minute. The most competitive toll free phone companies go down to about 3 cents per minute or so. We’ll give you a couple good competitive companies that do a good job and don’t cut corners to look cheaper than they are.
You have to be careful though because you don’t want to judge solely based on price. I always say that, picking a phone company based solely on price is like picking a spouse or partner solely on looks. It doesn’t usually take too long to realize that there are a lot of other important things too.
We’re also working hard on a new Provider Directory which will have in depth information on a lot of phone companies. This should be ready within a few weeks.

This is good information. One of things I talk about often is the paradox of choice – the problem that occurs all too often in our great capitalist country: sometimes having so many choices causes an inability to make a decision for the fear of not making a wise decision because of info overload, conflicting information and otherwise consfusing information. Anytime you can find unbiased expert advice it’s invaluable. Thanks for the info here.

We’re working on a Provider directory that will have a lot more in depth information and reviews of most companies. So watch for that because we’re trying to build a real resource with that.

The way I understood your service is that I would pay $49 one-time fee and
that first 100mins are free. After the free trial, I have to move it to the
carrier of my choice. Is there a short list of carriers that you can
provide ahead of time and the cost of usage per carrier?
I appreciate your inputs. Thanks.

Hi Jess,
We have that I think you’re looking for in the toll free manual that we send
after you activate a number. But here’s some more overall information on
the fees. http://www.TollFreeNumbers.com/fee You have the concept
correct. The cheapest ones go down to about 3 cents per minute.

Jess,
Part of it is at http://www.TollFreeNumbers.com/manual but it’s customized
with your information including your proof of ownership and the
documentation, so we really can’t send them out except when people activate
a number.

Bill,
I still want to know how much would be my recurring fee on monthly basis and who will be my carrier(assuming that I’m going to use the most expensive one on your list). I found another site who is charging between $190-400/month on top of the setup fee and monthly usage charges, that’s why I hardly believe my out-of-pocket expenses using your service would only be $49 + usage charges in the range of 3-8cents/minute.
Thanks,
Jess

Jess,
The simplest way to explain the difference is to say that they are a domain name squatter and we’re the GoDaddy of the phone number business. They’re trying to sell the domain name they activated and have been sitting on for as much as they can get for it. We’re like GoDaddy, charging based on the time and effort to secure what you want from the pool for YOU with no strings. Theirs has strings and contracts out the wazoo designed to give them all of the control. Ours is designed to give YOU the control, which is probably as important if not more important than the price difference too! It’s real. We’ve got 2000 testimonials for a reason….

Bill,
Is there a time limit for the INITIAL ring to number, and then you must choose a carrier? Or, will it simply stay with a DEFAULT carrier if you take no action to resporg it? Thanks.
