Some Things are Expensive
I’ll be the first to admit that the four star Premium numbers and ‘800’ numbers in backorder aren’t cheap. But you can’t go into Walmart and only look at the most expensive big screen tvs and then complain that they’re expensive. You don’t have to buy the most expensive TV. 98% of the things in the store are much less expensive. If you only looked at 2% most expensive things in any store they’d probably be more than most people want to spend but that’s OK.
You might not be able to buy the absolute best car you always wanted when you first start driving. We don’t usually get the best possible right out of the box in anything. If you’re just starting a small business, you can’t buy the most expensive things. Sometimes you just have to do the best you can with what you can afford. I’ve started several businesses so I’ve been there. You have to find a way to be more creative and find a way to get something clever that illustrates your strongest selling point.
You also have to realize that this isn’t a dollar store. Some things obviously take more time and effort to come up with than others and it wouldn’t be appropriate to make everything one price. Ask yourself why you want that four star number? If you think it’s better than a random number why wouldn’t you expect it to cost more? It certainly takes more time and effort and resources to get than a random number. And if they were the same price as random numbers they’d all be long gone anyway. So if you think the big TVs are too expensive, complaining about the prices won’t help. The Walmart salesperson can’t negotiate on the price. But there is a real simple solution for that. Get a smaller one and maybe down the line when your business is more successful you’ll be in a better position to get the big screen tv you really want.
