Don’t others charge less to Set Up an 800 Number?
I got the following question in my email and I wanted to post it in case it’s helpful for anyone else, and in case I need it again in the future.
MOST 8** ONE TIME FEE’S ARE ABOUT $100. DOLLARS OR LESS. WHY ARE YOUR 8** NUMBERS SO MUCH MORE MONEY TO ACQUIRE THAN THE COMPETITION? THANKS CHRIS
Chris,
First of all no other company is activating the number for the one time fee. They’re activating the number for you so they can provide and charge you for the ongoing service, which makes much more than any one time activation fee. In fact most regular phone companies activate numbers with no set up fee at all. We only charge a set up fee because we provide more help finding a better number, activate it faster and give you free temporary service. And we aren’t selling you the ongoing service, so we can’t do all of that for free.
The real difference between getting independent proof of ownership and just activating the number with the company you want to use it with is that you are literally relying on the people that want to keep you there paying them as long as possible for your ability to transfer your number away. That’s kind of like asking a hungry kid to guard the cookie jar. They want to eat your cookies, not let you transfer them away.
Regular phone companies usually don’t charge anything for activating numbers because they’re going to make more from the ongoing service. But even if it’s totally free, if you find out after you’ve put the number in all their advertising that you’re stuck with them and whatever rates they want to charge, is it really cheaper?
We do a much better job for a lot less!

The main service which over 75% of our customers get is our regular vanity number activation for $49. One competitor TollFreeNumber.org for example, charges $89 for their vanity number activation. That’s 80% more! They don’t do it as fast. They don’t give you free temporary service. They don’t help you find a better number and they don’t give you proof of ownership. They charge 80% more for it, plus you have to use one of the companies they are selling which they make a commission on too.
Some get Random 800 numbers which are $79. Only the better Premium and Disconnected numbers are between $99 and $999, but no other phone company can get you either of those at all. So I think you’re only looking at a small subset of our most expensive things which no other company can do at ANY price. Our look up tool shows things no other phone company can even see, let alone help you get. You should also try reaching someone on the phone at any other toll free service. It’s funny how so many people in the phone business seem to not want to talk to their customers on the phone. And you’ll never talk to anyone with even a fraction of the knowledge and experience of even the newest person here.
I’d be happy to get into specifics a little more, but I’m going to guess that you are looking at the Disconnected numbers in the email. If you look down the Keyword Lookup email we sent you, you’ll see there are basically two types of numbers and two main lists. The top 5 are the top 5 from the Disconnected list. So those are more expensive because disconnected numbers take more time and effort to do than regular activations. Some people never look down the email far enough to see the Available numbers which are immediately available and only $49. It’s kind of like comparing mobile homes to custom homes if everyone else only sold mobile homes.
