How to find the right RING
People often ask me for “good” numbers or numbers that are easy to remember or have a ring to them. The challenge is getting them to define this specifically, so it can be translated into an appropriate query or queries for the computer. Their first obvious examples of “good” numbers are almost inevitably so astronomical they’re totally out of touch with reality. You’re not going to be able to get 800-444-4444 or 800-222-4000.
Once you get past the obvious things that are never available simply because they’re obvious, you’re getting warmer. But how do you measure or tell what regular numbers have a “Ring” to them? The answer is to SING the number! This also works if someone’s giving you a number and you can’t write it down but need to remember it in a few minutes. I learned this trick from my 5 year old son in Kindergarten. Actually maybe I guess I should say I learned it from his teachers, because they use this with him a lot.
Children remember things if they have a jingle or are in song, and so can anyone. When you see a list of numbers available, don’t just read them SING THEM. Sing them to any song you like, from Row Row Row Your boat, to something popular on the radio. You have to do this out loud. If you have to close your door or go somewhere that nobody will hear you do it. Don’t be shy or worry about your singing. The louder you do it the better it’ll work.
You automatically add more energy and more enthusiasm to it when you sing and if you use a melody that your audience knows you’re connecting to something they already know. People also can’t help but sing along to a song they know. Even if you’re advertising something that has to be professional and can’t sing your number, say it with the right melody and flow and it’ll sound much better. Reading a number in monotone with no variation in pitch or pace is bland and won’t stick with anyone or make you look any more professional. But with the right melody almost any number can be much easier to remember and have a great ring to it. The trick is just the right song and number.

Hello, Bill.
Over the past several years, we have been privileged to obtain several
toll-free numbers from you. One of those numbers is 888-98-RADIO.
With my retirement from The Paul Moses Show, I was wondering if you
have any suggestions for our placing this telephone number up for sale
or auction.
I can be reached by dialing the 888 number or by posting here.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to speaking with you.
Paul

Hi Paul,
I have several articles about selling toll free numbers, but the best place to start would be with your contacts within the industry. There are so many ways to reach out within your contacts today that might be all you have to do.
The second option if you don’t have any contacts, is probably ebay. It doesn’t cost much and is at least worth a try. I wouldn’t think of it as a lottery ticket though. It has a nice ryme to it, and you might get a couple thousand. It might be a nice vacation so it’s worth a shot, but it’s not a new car or a house, in terms of value.
