It’s a Sales issue, not a Phone Number issue

I get calls from time to time, with people that want to market their number. It’s a phone number so they start by looking in the phone number business for someone that does this. The most important piece of advice that I give people is not to think of this as a phone number issue, but a SALES issue. They really need to find a good salesperson more than a phone number person. On top of that the people in the phone number business definitely get away with way too much crap, and the most important quality of the person they need is to be trustworthy. That’s probably even a little more important than their ability to sell.

I can help you with the phone number part, which is just some mechanics. Transferring the phone number isn’t rocket science or anywhere near as hard as selling it. And if you think about it, you might even be able to find someone in sales in the industry that you’re trying to sell it to. That would be the ideal solution. So look for someone that’s energetic and enthusiastic, with contacts and an understanding of the industry you’re trying to reach that you can trust. This will give you much better chances of success than anyone that talks a big game in this industry. Believe me, I know this industry and you don’t want to rely on anyone that’s been in it for any amount of time, if you don’t have to. I think you get the point.

Oh, and although I can’t market your number, we can help YOU market your number, by listing it so that anyone that looks for it or something related will see your comment that you have this available. That’s somewhat passive, but when you get someone to approach you, you can often get a lot more than if you had approached them.
