Ameristar wastes $30,000 for wrong numbers on an 866 number!
Even for a big business this is totally absurd. There’s just no other way to describe it. But big businesses don’t always behave rationally. Ameristar sued someone over misdials that THEY created and spent $30,000 in legal expenses before the owner gave up and gave them the number to avoid spending tens of thousands of dollars just to defend it. So Ameristar ultimately used over zealous lawyers to steal 866-MR-REFUND from the business that was using it to promote their business, because their number 866-MORE-FUN is one digit away.
I’ve seen big companies attack little guys by throwing tens of thousands of dollars in lawyers after them in other cases to get a number they wanted. Unfortunately big companies sometimes tend to think they can do anything they want and even take anything they want from little guys. However what really makes this absurd is that they did it just to get one possible misdial number of their 866 number which the owner offered them for $100 a month. I guess a big casino organization like Ameristar that has more money than they know what to do with can afford a 25 year return on their investment.
I’m not sure if we should tell them that there are 100 to 150 misdial numbers that are just one digit away from any number depending on how you calculate them. I just did a misdial number search and there was one that was available for just $49 and three more that could be backordered for just $195 each. Hey Ameristar, are they worth $30,000 too? Could we get you to waste tens of thousands of dollars by telling callers that the Casino has been moved to Nevada and converted to a legal brothel, or something equally stupid?

The number that Ameristar should use is 1-866-No-Refund.
