The words BOUGHT or PURCHASED can confuse people

When you get a toll free number from us it’s more than just a technicality when we say that you’re not really “Purchasing” the number from us. Using that term when you go to transfer your number to another carrier will often confuse them. Sales representatives wouldn’t use that term when someone activates a toll free number with a major carrier. The word purchase makes people think you bought it from another end user, not a phone company.

So rather than say you just purchased a toll free number, say that you have an 800 number on another carrier that you want to transfer over to them. They will give you the transfer form and it’ll go through much more easily. We aren’t “selling” you toll free numbers any more than GoDaddy is selling domain names. There are certainly several websites/services that sell or rent toll free numbers just like domain name owners/brokers sell domain names. But we’re basically the domain name registrar of the phone number business, charging a small one time “search” fee to register your number for you and giving you the ability to take that number to any phone company you want.

So use the phrase transfer an existing toll free number from another carrier instead of bought or purchased a toll free number which implies payment to an end user/owner. It’s not only more accurate, but will be easier for other people to understand.
