Leigh,

I looked up your toll free number and you're right it hasn't been released yet as of 10:30am EDT. (I'm putting the time here in case this takes some time to get to you as I'm traveling today) But I don't think that's because we're not releasing it or responding.

I'll copy Rita on this in case she's seen anything but we release numbers the same day we get the request, faster than anyone. We're also more accessible than anyone else in the toll free world, since the people that do the releases are able to reached directly by phone just as easily by the customer as other resporgs.

We also notify the customer as well as the carrier when we release a number which almost nobody else ever does. So we're really trying to do a good, transparent and accountable job in that. Make sure they're sending the request to the right place and have the right number and ask them to contact us directly if necessary. If your information is even a reasonable match, we'll release it in real time right over the phone, so we won't hold you up!

Feel free to forward this to the agent or person at AT&T you're dealing with and we'll be glad to help you get this transferred as quickly as possible. We're the only phone company trying to get rid of all our customers as fast as possible. http://www.TollFreeNumbers.com/push

We're happy to release it but we just don't want to release it to a large company (AT&T is very big!) until we're sure they're ready for it, because it wouldn't work any faster and it runs the risk of being picked up internally by someone else if it's not on your account when it's released.

Mike,

If you’re not advertising it you can leave it here for a while, (up to a year) for free. But the danger in doing that is that people tend ot forget and don’t’ think about setting it up until after the advertising starts and they're losing calls. And you may want to put it on your business cards which you’ll probably want to give out when you hear about a convention or meet with a lawyer or vendor etc. toll free numbers are great for faking it till you make it. And since you only pay for the calls you receive they cost almost nothing to have active in the mean time.

So while you can leave it here for a while, just remember that forgetting about and not being able to use it when you need it could end up costing you more than the nominal cost to have it active in the mean time. Does that make sense?

I am VERY new to this. I've never owned a toll-free # before, and I am not even using it ...yet... (I bought it in anticipation of needing one later this year). So really, I'm looking to "park it" somewhere cheaply for a few months, until the plans take shape. Based on your document, it looks like perhaps "PowerNet Global" is the best/cheapest option in this case, but I wanted to check with you to see if I'm reading that correctly. If so, please let me know and I will complete the form and get it submitted ASAP.

Thank you again, Bill! Your customer service is extraordinary....

Ed,

Any number you find with us can certainly be transferred to any company you want, including phone.com. You just get and fill out a transfer form with the new company that authorizes them to take over the number. They'll send the request to us and you can use it directly with them as long as you want.

Even more than that, they won't be able to hold you hostage because you have independent proof of ownership. So you'll own it with no strings, no extra cost and you can transfer it away any time. And your ability to transfer it away is what keeps them honest and guarantees if they don't do a good job you can find someone else that does.

The facts listed in the article regarding checking your own toll free number transfer is very important. The article is well-written, but most importantly very accurate. We facilitate the transfer of thousands of numbers and frankly, even we can get false information from the carriers at times. It's rare, but if it is your number that fails to transfer properly, your problem is 100%. So note all that TollFreeNumbers.com has said and follow through on checking your transfer. Once with the carrier of choice, you should be able to relax for many years.
