Are names that are easier to spell really any easier to remember?
If you meet several new people at a party which ones are you more likely to remember the name of? Someone with an easy to spell name or someone with a name that reminds you of something? Or maybe even better, someone with a name that reminds you of something related to that person.
A nice numeric number like a number with some repetitive digits, patterns, or ending in zeros is easy to dial. They’re kind of like names that are easier to spell. It’s nice to have a name that’s easy to spell. But it doesn’t really make you that much more memorable when you meet new people at a party.
Words beat Patterns of Numbers because they mean something.
A number that spells something related to your business is like a name that reminds you of something related to that person. Unlike an easy to spell name, a name that reminds you of something DOES make you much more memorable when you meet someone new at a party. That of course translates into more interaction with those people the next time you meet them, which in the vanity number side of this analogy means more calls and more sales.
I’ve written about Premium Numeric numbers, whatever you call them, Good, Nice, or Easy, they all make numbers easier to dial, which people assume means they’re easier to remember. Unfortunately that’s really not true. They’re not easier to remember, which you can tell by just trying to recall any of them along with the product or service they were for. If you do remember a nice numeric number it’s probably from repetitive dialing, not from advertising.
That’s because your fingers remember movements so easy to dial numbers and patterns are easier after repeatitive use. Your brain remembers words better though. That’s why the guy that reminds you of someone or something from work, will be easier to talk to than someone else who’s name just happens to be easy to spell. Don’t even get me started on what the regular phone company wanted to give you, which is a name made up of just random digits. That guy just sits in the corner at most parties because nobody can even pronounce his name, let alone ever remember it.

Couldn’t agree more! Customized toll-free numbers are a great way to spread the word about your products and services because they actually do mean something, which aids tremendously in consumer recall of your business. I read somewhere that consumers have an 84% better recall rate of these vanity 800 numbers vs. the standard numeric 800 number. Customized toll free numbers make your business standout among the millions of forgettable numbers that exist today, which is what every business wants.
