5 more places to look for info on a Toll Free #

There have always been a couple directories you could look in to see if a number is listed. Anywho which is owned by AT&T and is the directory you get when you dial 800-555-1212, GoTollFree.com, and InternetTollFree.com. Unfortunately they only list a small percent of all numbers. They aren’t very thorough.

Two new sites have come along recently that are more web2.0 styled and which allow users to enter their own information which may be helpful too. 800notes.com allows you to do just what the name implies, enter notes about each number. It tends to be a Forum style. Another interesting service is whocalled.us which encourages users to enter information about numbers that don’t provide information on your caller ID.

We are in the process of incorporating some of this data into our own lookup to link to each of these services when they have data about a number, you can tell when you look up a number that is listed in any of these sites. But in the mean time they may be good resources for you. They may also be good places to enter some information at too, especially if you are having trouble with anyone harassing you with a toll free number.
anywho.com Go TollFree.com Internet TollFree.com 800 Notes Who called.us

Bill, We have an odd request for you. We are looking for an 800 number that doesn’t seem to be used.

Our research shows this number is being used by AT&T, but it looks like it is an “unadvertised” number, that if dialed, usually goes directly to a call queue, rather than an IVR.

Do you know if it is possible to contact them and pay you and/or AT&T a fee for this number? Have you ever dealt with something like this before? Please let me know!

    Regards,

    Robbie Kibler

      Robbie,

First all I don’t act as a bounty hunter or a match maker and go try to approach the owner of a number for you. We’re more like Match.com than a matchmaker. I also removed the number from your comment.

The responsible organization is SNET. That’s part of AT&T now, but knowing the section may help. I also have a private investigator that does great at finding information on numbers buried in AT&T if you really need it as a backup.

I was very pleased with how easy it was to use your site to secure a toll-free number for my business. It is refreshing to find a site like yours that is transparent and truly user friendly. When I did have a question, I was impressed that you personally fielded my call and provided me with cost-saving and time-saving advice. I will recommend your site to others. Thanks again.

1-800 MARKETER provides a fabulous service! I loved being able to search for my own vanity number without waiting for some unknown "staff" to get back to me. The reservation system gave me time to get the logistics of having an 800 number routed through my phone service without worring about losing the number I had found and activation was unbelievably easy for this technologically-challenged entrepreneur! I spent many hours and phone calls needlessly trying to work with the Frontier network Phone cmpany trying to obtain a decent toll free number. Their method was to have me keep sending them lists of possible names or numbers I would like to try to get and then after several days they would respond and state that none of them were available. Finally in exasperation we just accepted one which we did not really care for and that was not memorable.

I came acrosss your site after Googling because we realized that the number we had accepted just was not going to be what we wanted. Your site came up with so many great numbers in minutes and now we feel more confident about our growth and name recognition in the future .

Thanks - however you do it !

If you use an enhanced voicemail service or any system for all your calls that also detects fax tones, but you don't need the fax detection you should consider turning that feature off, if possible. Background noise or things can sometimes make the fax dection system think a regular voice call is a fax call. It is pain to the caller the first time, but if they hang up and call bck again, and the same background voice triggers the fax tones again, they're probably going to give up and may never call you.

If you need the fax detection, that's fine. But many people have seperate fax lines so they really don't need the detection system which could malfunction. This is just a very small tip, but it might be helpful!

Awesome service. The second the credit card was processed, I received an email and before I could finish reading the email it was already ringing to my cellphone. Too fast to even describe.
