Finding the Owner of an 800 number with a Private Investigator
It’s not easy to find the owner of an 800 number. There is no whois look up tool or central database with all of the customer information, like there is for domain names. We can tell you the phone company responsible for a toll free number. They’re the only ones that have that information but they don’t give it out very readily. That’s why we often use a private investigator when we really need to get the Customer Name and Address (aka CNA).
We provided this service a couple years ago, but haven’t recently because several phone companies increased security making it harder to get this information and because it’s honestly hard to find a good investigator that you can trust. I even hired a girl that was good at it instead of contracting with someone. But these requests always take significant time and effort and can be such a headache. So I’ve been reluctant to offer this service any more and even turned away anyone that paid for it via the old product link. But I’ve recently started working with one of the top investigators in the industry and he’s been really amazing. So we’re offering the CNA Lookup again.
So we’re offering this service again. It comes with my personal money back guarantee that we’ll get you the accurate information. They are only required to return the CNA but they often come up with things like the ring to number, and account number. There are situations where there may be no customer information on a number. If possible they will get the last customer information if there is any. And if they can’t get any customer information there probably is none!

If I do the CNA what happens next? Do I call the client and see if they are prepared to sell the number or do you? And if they will sell the number and we agree on a deal then what? Am I dreaming here or does this really happen?
Thanks
Stacey

Hi Stacey,
That’ll get you the customer name and address and often the ring to number and/or account number if they can get it. You would need to contact them. And there are cases where the information the phone company has may be old and it may not be easy to find anyone too. I usually suggest asking them to waive the disconnect period since that’s much easier to get them to agree to. If you reach them and they agree to transfer the number you can either use their or your phone company or I can give you the paperwork to handle it for you.
It does “happen” sometimes. I’ve seen people talk company’s out of numbers you would think were worth a LOT of money, that are even related to their business in some cases. One hand just doesn’t always know what the others are doing and you just never know. There’s no way of predicting or knowing ahead of time what the situation or their reaction will be.

How can I purchase a number that is listed with a phone company but is disconnected. How do you convince the company to sell you that particular number.

Mack,
You can’t usually just activate a number with the phone company that has it. It’s not a matter of convincing them to sell it to you. They probably have a customer for the number. You need to track down the old customer for the number and get them to sign off on it. See: http://www.tollfreenumbers.com/consulting for more on pursuing numbers that aren’t available.
