1-800 CALL SOURCECallSource.com, a shared use and routing company nabbed almost half of the 22,000 new toll free numbers released on 2/15. It only took about two minutes for all 22,000 numbers converted from RCC numbers into regular toll free numbers to be exhausted and Call Source got almost HALF of them. How many of them were taken for actual end users is an interesting question though and they weren’t the only ones that got a huge chunk either.

Call Source got 10,029 followed closely by Signal One who took 6,949 for their mass misdial marketing business, promoting their 1010 directory assistance service. That does seem a bit odd though considering that none of those numbers had ever been used so they would probably receive fewer misdials overall than most 800 numbers.

Nobody else even got anything in the thousands including Primetel who was conspicuously absent from the list. I don’t want to jump to any conclusions or assume anything from these numbers. Maybe Call Source and Signal One had thousands of customers requesting toll free numbers. We don’t share these numbers to hurt or embarrass anyone. But it certainly does raise some questions about these companies and the industry.
