Can we do it over the phone?

People sometimes ask me to check a number and unfortunately I have to refer them back to the website, not because I don’t want to help them or because I’m unwilling to look something up.  I can’t look things up over the phone for the same reason Amazon employees can’t search for books for you over the phone and Google employees can’t do searches for things over the phone and read you the results.  It be slower than doing it yourself right on the website, there’s too much information there to read to you, and you’ll have to do multiple queries, and then you’ll wind up thinking you need to have their help for every search when in reality, you can do it faster, easier, any time the spirit moves you right online.

Perhaps in the future, we’ll have an interactive query process that will let you enter and search for numbers right over the phone.  But we don’t have that now.  So we may occasionally do a few queries or use the Keyword Lookup for customers when we’re able to.  But please don’t be offended when we say we can’t do lookups over the phone.  It’s really because we want to help you, that we don’t do them over the phone for customers.  We don’t want to make you dependent on us typing them in.  Once you type them in and see how easy it is, many people almost enjoy thinking things up and “hunting‿ for numbers.
