The 3 H’s of Business VoIP

A lot of people talk about voip without really understanding the different types of voip service and who they are really appropiate for. This is an interesting artcle about the different “flavors” of voip service that have emerged and what type of audience they are targeting.

I don’t pretend to be an authority on VoIP but I really liked this article. The 3 Flavors of Business Voip. This doesn’t really go into or relate much to toll free service, but it is related and something that many of our visitors are looking for some information about. That’s why I wanted to point to this helpful article and resource.

The article explains the three H’s of voip, “House”, “Hosted” and “Hybrid” The article also covers the migration to voip which is sometimes overlooked along with a real insiders guide to how to price it out. The author Dan Baldwin is the author of the “Telecom Survival Guide” and a knowledgeable telecom broker and consultant I’ve known him for years.

    I recently purchased a premium number form you and I need advice on service providers.

    2 issues;

    My office is in Hawaii

    I have VOIP service

    I contacted my local VOIP provider and they were clueless (I think I may change providers!).

    I contacted Powernet Global and they quoted me 16.9 cents per minute for calls from the continental US. I assume that high rate is due to the calls being connected to a 808 (Hawaii number). I assume that with VOIP I can get a California area code (where the majority of my Clients are) and get a better rate by pointing the 800 number there.

    Is there a better solution?

      Don’t worry too much about your voip company being clueless about toll free service. All voip companies are pretty much clueless. I wouldn’t change companies because of that though since they’re all pretty bad at toll free. Fortunately you do NOT need to use the company that provides the local line to be able to get the calls to that local line. In fact the local company that provides your physical line is usually the worst company to request.

      Yes, sending the calls to Hawaii is more expensive but you will get around that by using a voip number from the mainland. That is actually a good choice for any international service. And yes, Hawaii is pretty much the equivalent of an international call in many ways. PNG is generally one of the best for going to a voip service. It’ll be 3.9 cents per minute and $2.50 per month for that. If you want that though you should use the form we give you in the toll free manual. That sets up an account and transfers the number all with just one form, much faster than if you send it to anyone else. It also speeds the account set up part up if you send them the front page of your phone bill.
