How much does it cost to Backorder a number in Disconnect?
The total cost if we are successful and able to get the number you request from backorder is between $195 and $795 depending on the area code, but the up front fee to request the back order is only $4.95. This small up front fee is the cost to do the research and provide you with the phone company the number is with, and the date of the drop. We charge this small fee to just cover the cost of administering the back orders and to keep fictitious requests from preventing you from backordering the number or taking resources away from your request.
It’s also necessary to charge a small up front fee because the requestor can sometimes use the information we provide and contact the previous phone company to get them to release the number to them before it drops into the spare pool. This isn’t easy or extremely likely with most phone companies, but it is a possibility so having this information can sometimes be quite valuable. (more on this under Cutting In Line below) You can cancel a backorder request up until the number drops, but the $4.95 fee is only refunded if we are unable to accept your backorder request, either because it is already taken by someone else or because it has already dropped.
The final backorder acquisition fee is the amount charged upon successfully acquiring a number on backorder. The cost is based on the area code because ‘800′ numbers, for example, are simply in higher demand and are harder to get.

Back ordering a number does NOT guarantee that we’ll be able to get you the number, but we will only attempt to get it for the first person that backorders it. Once your backorder request is accepted, we won’t accept any other requests from anyone else for this number. Your backorder request can be canceled after it’s accepted before the number drops, but after a number drops if we are able to get that number on your behalf the number is automatically activated and put into your name and you are charged the appropriate backorder acquisition fee on the credit card provided for the initial fee.
Acquiring a number from backorder is more difficult and therefore more expensive than just getting a regular number out of the spare pool of available numbers, just like it’s more expensive to get a domain name from backordering it than if it’s freely available in the available pool. But in today’s highly competitive market this is often the only way to get a good number since a high percentage of numbers being returned to the pool are taken literally within seconds.

Does the acquisition fee listed above include the $49.95 Activation Fee? Or is that an additional fee? Or is it not needed?

Hi Chuck,
The backorder fee includes the regular activation as well. There is no additional cost other than the backorder fee.
