Every yellow car is a Taxi

Just because you hear a disconnected message doesn't mean the 800 number is actually in Disconnect.

Just because taxis are yellow doesn’t mean that every yellow car is a taxi, even in New York City. It may be true that when an 800 number is disconnected you’ll hear a message saying it’s disconnected if you dial the number, but that doesn’t mean that every time you hear a disconnect message that means the toll free number is actually disconnected. There are other reasons why you could hear a disconnect or intercept message and there are other reasons why people might have a yellow car even if they’re not a taxi.

Every yellow car isn’t a taxi any more than every disconnect message means the toll free number is disconnected.

The local number that the 800 number points to could be disconnected, or it could be programmed wrong in the switch or it could be a problem or setting out of place in the carrier. Just because you hear answering machine when you call doesn’t mean nobody is home. It may always go to an answering machine when they’re not home but there are other reasons why the calls could be going to the answering machine, and there are other reasons why a toll free number might be going to a disconnect message than just because the 800 number is actually in disconnect status in the national database.

There are is more about numbers not going through in a previous post, But when I called it… but I thought the taxi analogy illustrated the false logic in assuming that hearing a disconnect message actually indicated or proved that a toll free number was disconnected. It certainly doesn’t prove that. Looking it up in the database with the lookup tool on our website is much more reliable.
