No Early Request Process for 855? WRONG!

Submitting early 855 Requests

Someone sent me an email that a representative of one of the top phone companies sent them saying “There is no Pre-Release Request process as has been claimed by some companies.”

I think it’s clear that the representative was confusing the word REQUEST with RESERVE. It’s certainly true, there’s no way to RESERVE 855 numbers before the opening on Oct. 2nd. But that doesn’t mean there’s no way to submit 855 REQUESTS to your phone company before then, which would be stupid. Some phone companies don’t have any public way to submit requests, but most phone companies do or at least will at some point. And it’s ridiculous to make a blanket statement that, no phone company is collecting requests.

That’s kind of like saying you can’t give someone your Christmas wish list until Christmas day. It may be true that you can’t give some their Christmas gift until Christmas day, but it would be pretty dumb for someone to say that you can’t tell anyone what you want or hope to get for Christmas until Christmas day. If you waited until Christmas day to say what you want for Christmas, you might get a few leftover things that nobody else wanted, but you’re certainly not going to be able to get anything good!


Don’t wait until 10/2 unless you like Leftovers

There are vanity number resporgs that can literally suck up 10,000 numbers per minute. The top hundred thousand numbers will be gone within the first couple minutes (or less). It’s obviously stupid to think you’re going to be able to submit requests after it opens and have any hope of getting anything. Anyone that’s telling you this is basically saying that they don’t have an 855 request process or don’t know how to submit requests ahead of time. Sometimes in a big company, representatives wind up repeating something incorrect or out of date that’s definitely doing his customers a dis-service.

The SMS800 that issues the numbers doesn’t accept requests before the opening, but customers can’t submit requests to the SMS directly anyway. They have to submit their requests to their phone company which will submit that request for them to the SMS. And they not only CAN submit their request to their phone company before October 2nd, but they SHOULD submit their request as early as possible because most phone companies submit their requests to the SMS800 database in the order they were received.
